Over the past several years, Sacar has been specifically focusing on various aspects of environmental sustainability. Besides equipping its new building with photovoltaic panels and very low-impact LED lighting systems, it has been adopting 100% recyclable PET packages for over 15 years.
Today, with the awareness of how much the planet is suffering from the invasion of plastics, the company has decided to do more.
After years of research, analyses and tests on new materials, Sacar has recently obtained very satisfying results with PLA, an innovative bio-plastic material very similar to PET in terms of look and performance, which however originates from converting sugar from corn, beet, sugar cane and other natural and renewable sources.
Natural dyes are also being tested to maintain the characteristic green colour of the packages without distorting them. This testing phase is crucial as it must ensure that the packaging is fully compostable despite being coloured.
The new PLA packages are going to completely replace the current ones made of PET, which proves once more the commitment of Sacar towards the environment.
